Boran Zhao recently received a DMA in piano performance from the University of South Carolina where he studied with Dr. Nicholas Susi. Zhao started learning the piano at
age seven. He won the Gold Prize at the Chinese Young Musician Competition in Beijing, China, at age fourteen. Zhao holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from Texas State University; during his studies at Texas State University, he was the finalist at the2021 Texas State Concerto and Aria Competition, and he
received the Piano Achievement Award from Texas State University the same year. Zhao served as an Associate and the chair of the Young Jury for the 2023 Southeastern
Piano Festival. He has served as a graduate assistant for the
SEPF for the past three years.
